45 Years of Blessing

45 Years of Blessing

Last week we celebrated the 45th Anniversary of MECS with our current community in great style.

We started on Monday with special assemblies for the Primary and Secondary sections where special guests talked about their long term involvement in the school. One of the many highlights was Colin Youl sharing some amusing memories. After each assembly we sang Happy Birthday to the school, blew out candles and prayed together, thanking God for our history and where we have come from, and asked for blessings for the future.

And then there was cake - enough for the whole school! 15 giant slab cakes in all  were enjoyed over the week!

We hosted a Parent Morning Tea on Wednesday; it was great to have a staffroom full of parents and also past principals Stewart Miller and Martin Hanscamp and their wives there to celebrate with us.

On Wednesday afternoon the staff enjoyed a 70’s style afternoon tea complete with trifle and upside down pineapple cake!

On Thursday the Secondary students had a ‘Back to the 70’s day’, which included dressing up, a fashion parade, games, 70’s music performed by our Secondary band, and even students dancing in the gym! A BBQ lunch was provided for the whole school, with nearly 1000 sausages and hamburgers enjoyed. A huge thank you to the team of parents who helped run the BBQs and fed so many of us in an efficient and fun way.

The Kindergarten had a celebration with each group. These included dressing up and decorating a cake and best of all, getting to eat the cake!

The celebrations will continue later in the year with a celebration EGM, and we will be acknowledging our founding families with a special afternoon tea in October.

We have much to be thankful for.
