Ranges TEC
Ranges TEC specialises in hands-on learning primarily for students who are looking to pursue a trade pathway or to achieve the VCE Vocational Major. It’s where a mullet in a classroom is a common occurrence and thinking outside the box often translates into constructing a box in the workshop.
Ranges TEC has developed programs in Years 10, 11 and 12 which are specifically designed for hands-on learners, with the goal of achieving a Year 12 completion and a pathway into trade, TAFE, or the wider workforce. It has been designed by industry professionals who know how to engage students, instil confidence and develop their specialised skillset. Our staff work alongside students to mirror the working relationships students will encounter in their future workplaces.
Ranges TEC for MECS Students
MECS students have the opportunity to complete a VET Subject at Ranges TEC during their schooling.
VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects can be a fun and exciting subject for students to include in their Year 10, VCE and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) programs. VET subjects are a compulsory component of the VCE VM. Students often find that a VET subject gives them a chance to have a break from the usual classroom environment and engage in learning in a more hands-on and active way. Ranges TEC specialises in project based training.
Students including VET as part of their MECS program, generally attend Ranges TEC for one afternoon a week whilst doing the rest of their subjects at MECS.
VET subjects are typically completed over two years. Upon successful completion of the course students will receive an accredited Certificate II or pre-apprenticeship qualification. In addition, students will receive the following credit towards their VCE or VCE VM:
First Year = VCE or VCE VM Unit 1&2 (ie. a Year 11 subject)
Second Year = VCE or VCE VM Unit 3&4 (ie. a Year 12 subject)
VET subjects also count towards a student's ATAR if they are doing the VCE. If students commence a VET course in Year 10, they are actually fast-tracking a VCE subject.
Ranges TEC offers the following Certificate II nationally recognised qualifications:
Ranges TEC and MECS students also have the option of undertaking an alternative Cert II course or equivalent, with an external provider (where possible).
