Welcome to
Senior Secondary
A time in our students education journey where they can refine their study pathways, relate more to their teachers as they become young adults and choose whether they use their study period to play volleyball outside or study for an upcoming assessment. With a bit of guidance, because after all it’s still school, we empower students to make the decisions that will shape their future.
As students move into Years 10-12, we begin to focus on preparing our young adults for their futures beyond school. The curriculum and environment offers a supported foundation for our students as they embark on their future. Throughout this process, students holistically develop academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically by engaging in school life. Our objective is to support students in fostering their character, faith, and learning.
Our senior school presents a unique offering of pathways unparalleled across the state of Victoria. From Year 10 to 12 students’ choice increases across a wide range of subjects, 3 different pathways and 2 campuses. The three distinct pathways of VCE (Academic), VCE VM (Applied) and VCE VM (Trade) are supported by facilities to best provide students with the experiences they need to learn the theory and skills to step into their future. This reflects our deep hope that every student is well equipped to use the gifts God has given them in his world.
Year 10
Year 10 is a pivotal year in a student’s educational journey, bridging the middle years and senior schooling while encouraging deeper personal growth and future planning. Students build on their knowledge and have the opportunity to explore a range of subjects. The timetable is intentionally designed with flexibility, allowing students to personalise their learning and begin to feed into pathways. A key focus in Year 10 is preparing students to be work ready and life ready equipping them with practical skills. Pathway conversations are central during this year, helping students reflect on their God-given strengths, passions, and purpose. We believe each student is uniquely made by God, and Year 10 provides the space and support for them to discover and develop the skills they need to thrive in both their careers and their wider lives.

Year 11 & 12
In VCE, there is a growing expectation that students will take ownership for their own learning and develop as a learner who is self-motivated, organised and responsible for balancing their academic and extra-curricular activities. Therefore, when choosing subjects for Year 11 and 12, it’s important for students to consider what they’re good at and what interests them. As students are preparing for life beyond formal secondary education, we want to equip them with a foundation of how the biblical narrative can inform purpose, identity and vocation, so they can lead fulfilled and faithful lives.
We offer a wide range of VCE subjects with smaller class sizes, tailored to student interests. Students who desire to study subjects outside of our offerings are able to do that through Virtual Schools Victoria. Students will be able to choose between the VCE and the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). Vocational and applied learning (VAL) is deeply embedded into the VCE VM stream. Students will be able to apply skills and knowledge in practical settings (delivered at our Ranges TEC campus). Students in Years 10-12 are provided in depth career support services to provide support and guidance as they prepare for their pathway beyond MECS.

VCE VM
VCE VM is an alternative VCE program that aims to help students make informed vocational choices within the specific industry sector of their choice and/or to facilitate pathways to further learning. It aims to help prepare students for employment, post-secondary education or training and for participation in the broader community. MECS VCE VM engages students in practical activities, industry excursions, and community-based activities, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work.
Careers
Students are supported by a dedicated Careers Co-ordinator who provides a range of essential services. These services include one on one consultations upon request at any time, visits to tertiary institutions in Year 10, provision of relevant and timely careers/pathway information to parents and students, and assistance with tertiary course selection during Year 12.
MECS also supports Year 10 students by providing a fortnightly Careers lesson run by the Careers Co-ordinator in order to equip them to make informed decisions about their future. Students at MECS are encouraged to consider the education and career paths that best suit their skills, interests and giftings. We emphasise the value of all educational pathways equally in our messaging, reflecting the view that God has created each of them equally uniquely and all are invited to find their work/life purpose within a broader biblical perspective.
