Situated in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, MECS is one of over seventy Christian Education National (CEN) schools throughout Australia. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, MECS has over seven hundred and twenty students from Kindergarten to Year 12, and a second campus nearby, Ranges TEC, offering vocational training to over 200 Year 10-12 students.

Mount Evelyn Christian School is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Executive Team in the position of Business Manager. The Business Manager is appointed by the Board and reports to the Principal. The Business Manager is a member of the school’s Executive Team, with responsibilities to the School Board.

The Business Manager is to serve as the Executive responsible for the financial and business operations of the school. The Business Manager is accountable for contributing to and delivering the strategic vision of MECS in terms of its stewardship and provision of finances, financial and administrative activities and property development to achieve the intended educational outcomes.

Key requirements for the position include:

  • Suitable qualifications (CA/CPA preferred);
    Excellent financial management and accounting skills;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the ethos and values of Christian education;
  • High levels of organisational leadership skills;
  • Experience in schools and/or not-for-profit organisations is desirable

Mount Evelyn Christian School has a position available for a Science Secondary Teacher commencing Monday 13thMay, 2024. This is a fixed contract position, ending 21st January 2025 or by negotiation.

This is a 0.35 – 0.5 FTE position, across an 7-8 day fortnight. There is the possibility of increased hours for the right applicant.

Mount Evelyn Christian School (MECS) is seeking an experience, passionate, enthusiastic and skilled piano teacher commencing as soon as possible. This is a fixed contract until the end of the 2024 school year and could suit a new graduate or an experienced teacher.

The applicant should be suitably qualified, have previous experience in a similar role and teach in a way that keeps students motivated and well organised. They must be able to teach piano in the genre of contemporary music, including jazz, improvisation, modern worship and other popular modern music genres. The successful applicant will be able to teach notation, theory and chord charts.

Applicants must have a Working with Children Check Card and a current Police Record Check.

Key selection criteria

  • Is a performer themselves and taught in schools before.

Mount Evelyn Christian School has a part-time position (0.5 – 0.85 FTE) available for a Learning Assistant (Teacher’s Aide) in our Secondary School, commencing Monday 6th or 13th May, 2024.

MECS is looking for a Learning Assistant to join the growing Learning Support team in the Senior Secondary section of MECS. The role is to support one or two identified students in the Vocational Majors program (formerly VCAL) 3 days per week. The ability to build effective relationships is vital in this role, and some knowledge and/or experience of supporting students living with autism would be helpful. There is possibility for extension of employment to 5 days a week, supporting other students in the secondary school.

Applicants should be suitably qualified (minimum Cert III in Education Support), have previous experience in a similar Education Support role and be highly motivated. You must have a Working with Children Card and current Police Record Check.

Learning Assistants have a broad role. They undertake a variety of duties which mostly comprise assisting teachers and supporting students in the classroom and other educational activities, and providing attendant care and assistance to students, as required. The position may also include some administrative or clerical tasks, and assistance with resources in a variety of school settings, such as the classroom, library and laboratories.

Mount Evelyn Christian School (MECS) has a position available for a part time (2 days per week/FTE 0.4) School Counsellor, start date negotiable.

The School Counsellor is responsible for some of the more complex pastoral care and social emotional needs of students at MECS. Through short-term counselling, School Counsellors support students from Prep- Year 12. The School Counsellors work as part of the wellbeing team at MECS.

Applicants should be suitably qualified with tertiary education and have experience working as a counsellor with children/young people (experience in a school setting is preferred). Mount Evelyn Christian School (MECS) has a part time Secondary Wellbeing Officer position available (2 days per week/FTE 0.35), to begin as soon as possible, or by negotiation.

The Secondary Wellbeing Officer has a broad role. They undertake a variety of duties which mostly comprises assisting and supporting students in Year 7-12 with social and emotional challenges, with the goal to transition students back into the classroom and other educational activities. The position may also include some administrative or clerical tasks. The Secondary Wellbeing Officer works as part of the wellbeing team at MECS. The duties are performed under close direction and supervision from the Secondary Wellbeing Coordinator.

Key selection criteria

  • Knowledge, skill, and experience in providing emotional support to students with mental health and wellbeing challenges.
  • Work with social and emotionally distressed students individually, and in small groups effectively.
  • Can work independently (initiative skills) and work collaboratively as a team.
    Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Know and comply with ChildSafe and confidentiality protocols and boundaries.
  • Previous professional or community volunteer experience in working with young people with mental health and wellbeing challenges.

MECS provides a limited number of student placement positions for those completing their Certificate IV in Education Support. Placements can be in the Primary or Secondary school. People completing their Education Support student placement at MECS will be provided with support to complete assignments set by their course provider. In addition to this, placement students will be allocated to a variety of educational settings within the school at the direction of the Education Support Coordinators.
